A remote monitoring solution implemented by LTM for a large Asian construction company. The client was facing challenges related to real-time monitoring of Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), productivity trends, equipment conditioning, energy consumption, and reducing unplanned downtime. The solution provided by LTM aimed to address these issues. The solution involved data acquisition from machines using sensors and machine controllers, followed by wireless data transfer to a central data store. This data included levels, temperatures, pressures, and other machine-specific data. The solution also included a local Human-Machine Interface (HMI) for operators to trigger alerts for production or maintenance issues, an Andon display board for consolidated plant information, and intuitive dashboards for visualizing trends such as utilization, energy consumption, and operation efficiency. The remote monitoring solution enabled the construction company to monitor the efficiency of their construction machines remotely, thereby improving their productivity. The night shift productivity was increased by 2.5 times through insight-based intervention. The solution also resulted in higher power savings and a reduced post-breakdown response time from 30 minutes to 5 minutes by digitizing the process. The first output from the start of the shift was drastically reduced from 1.5 hours to 30 minutes. The most significant result was the streamlining of root cause analysis by replacing manual, paper-based record keeping with HMI-enabled recording of breakdown causes. In summary, the document presents a case study of a remote monitoring solution implemented by LTM for a large Asian construction company. The solution enabled real-time monitoring of various parameters, including OEE, productivity trends, energy consumption, and machine conditioning. The solution resulted in significant improvements in productivity, power savings, and response times, as well as the streamlining of root cause analysis.
